Managing Continuity: Making your Organization Crisis Ready

by Macoy Rubio

Given the current landscape, organizations need to plan, be well-prepared, and know the action steps when a crisis hits their operations, directly or indirectly. Even without the pandemic, organizations should anticipate or foresee what possible challenges may arise and how these could impede their operations.

Last 20 May 2021, the Asian Institute of Management – Stephen Zuellig Graduate School of Development Management held a masterclass facilitated by the EMDRCM program team via Zoom. Professor Eula Villar graced the masterclass as the resource speaker and shared the importance of a clear business continuity management strategy. Moreover, Prof. Eula provided a clear overview of key points to consider in developing a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) for their respective organizations. She emphasized that each BCP is unique due to each organization’s specific conduct of business operations and may not be tailor-fit to another organization even if they fall within the same industry.

The event was well attended by participants coming from Asian countries, namely: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, and the Philippines. The profile of the participants is very diverse, coming from the private and public sectors such as Disaster Risk and Crisis Management practitioners, administrators, academicians, and students. Also present in the event are participants from the police, military, and even professionals from the insurance industry. This indicates that most sectors in different organizations already give attention to disaster risk and crisis management.
