Pasay, Philippines – The Government of the Philippines, in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), is currently hosting the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) 2024 at the Philippine International Convention Center. This high-level conference, held under the theme “Surge to 2030: Enhancing Ambition in Asia-Pacific to Accelerate Disaster Risk Reduction,” is the premier platform in the region for reviewing and enhancing cooperation to implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) is honored to participate in this prestigious event. Professor Chad Briggs, PhD, Academic Program Director for the Executive Master in Disaster Risk and Crisis Management (EMDRCM) under the AIM Stephen Zuellig Graduate School of Development Management, is serving as a panelist in a key session titled “Data-Driven Decision Making for Risk-Informed Development and Financing.” This session focuses on the critical role of data in shaping effective disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies, particularly in Asia-Pacific, the world’s most disaster-prone region.
In addition to Prof. Briggs, two students from the EMDRCM program are contributing their insights on discussions regarding gender equality, social inclusion, and gender-responsive resilience— essential topics in DRR governance and community resilience.
The APMCDRR 2024 brings together governments, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society to share innovative solutions and best practices. This is a crucial opportunity to accelerate disaster risk reduction efforts and contribute to building more resilient communities across the region.
The Institute’s engagement in APMCDRR 2024 highlights its dedication to shaping future leaders and driving forward critical insights in disaster risk reduction through the Executive Master in Disaster Risk and Crisis Management.
